Sure, it has been done before, but lets try to create, collaboratively, a list of features that Battlefront 3 must have, and must NOT have. Here are some of mine:
MUST HAVES:
- Ground to Air seamlessly
- Some new classes or classes with minimal choices
- More vehicles
- Vehicle damage
- Realistic entering and exiting of vehicles
- Weaken vehicle armour, weaken blast radius of vehicle's weapons, strengthen vehicle's weapons
- Increase blast radius of grenades, rockets, and explosions
- Fix balancing issues with teams such as the CIS
- Don't limit battles to the Star Wars canon, allow Republic to fight the Empire
- Have more army-exclusive choices
MUST HAVE NOTS:
- No fully customizable classes - what's the point of classes then?
- No bots who only target you
So, lets get into a serious discussion here, what does BFIII need? And not need?

Must have:
Really good AI
A really good multiplayer rather than a good campaign
Maps should have balanced heroes
Must not have:
Cut-scenes between land/space, space/ship transitions.

Hey, uh, if we're getting into the whole 'realistic entering/exiting of vehicles thing,' If I remember correctly, most of the CIS 'vehicles' are droids themselves, so... how exactly would that work?
Anyway:
DO:
-Prone firing position
-(Limited) customizable kit layouts
-Maps expanded to include more locations (Jedi Temple)
-Capitol ships expanded to include new interior locations/hardpoints
-Scripted, triggerable map events
-Partially destructible environment.
-Improved ranking and scoring system
-Improved artificial intelligence
-Improved handling for Jedi and Heroes
-AI more focused on the fight itself, not the player
-Better hero system
-More locations from the films and EU
-Weapons that 'feel' like weapons
-Appropriate vehicle armor and abilities
-More local population & indigenous species' in maps
-Historical battle mode
-AI Heroes
-Accurate visuals, sounds, and effects
-Appropriate animations for units (Battle droids, clones, and rebels should NOT all move the same way)
DO NOT:
-Ridiculously powerful award weapons

hmmmmmmm, this is an interesting point
Must Have:
- Destroyable Capital ships
- More Complex capital ships but not too complex

Maybe they could get engulfed by it. Like it unfolds and eats 'emKelevra wrote:Hey, uh, if we're getting into the whole 'realistic entering/exiting of vehicles thing,' If I remember correctly, most of the CIS 'vehicles are droids themselves, so... how exactly would that work?
Well, if for example, the standard entering time is 4 seconds, then a droid could just approach a vehicle, and merge their programming together so that they could control the ship. The animation could be a droid opening a panel and putting in a little plug, ala R2D2 hacking doors.Kelevra wrote:Hey, uh, if we're getting into the whole 'realistic entering/exiting of vehicles thing,' If I remember correctly, most of the CIS 'vehicles' are droids themselves, so... how exactly would that work?
Another possibility is for droids to have the advantage, as a army exclusive, to wirelessly enter vehicles if they are at least at a certain distance. I think that'd be both cool and tactically interesting both for the opposing team and the CIS themselves.

What about clones entering those vehicles?Scott wrote:Well, if for example, the standard entering time is 4 seconds, then a droid could just approach a vehicle, and merge their programming together so that they could control the ship. Hmm...they could either do some sort of hacking, but that would leave them to be killed on ground, or they could punch through the section where the controls are, pull out cables and hop in there.spartan_sixtyfour wrote:What about clones entering those vehicles?Scott wrote:Well, if for example, the standard entering time is 4 seconds, then a droid could just approach a vehicle, and merge their programming together so that they could control the ship. K, now it's getting a bit odd. Vehicles should probably be locked to enemy soldiers anyway (aside from maybe pilots/engineers)
I would suggest just integrating any 'droid' vehicles directly into the spawn menu. Aside from ones that actually do have pilots like the AAT.

Well, there isn't exactly much Sitting room inside of one of those. And punching through solid metal is a lot more complicated than it sounds.
I had no problem with popping in and out of vehicles in the game. With the way many of these vehicles are designed (AT-ATs, AT-STs, X-Wings, Spider Droids, Vulture Droids, AT-TE's, AATs, etc) seeing soldiers climb all over them would end up looking very silly after a while.
An animation for say, hopping into a speederbike or something would be fine. But watching a clone climb his way up a vulture droid's leg, punch it in the face, rip out what's probably essential circuitry, climb inside the mass of jumbled metal and wires, and fly off, would be... odd.
Other than that, I remember in the PS2 copy of Battlefield 2, you could take control of a vehicle, or any other soldier from a distance, and whoever you were previously controlling would just become another AI bot. Something like that might work as far as droid vehicles go.

I guess I pictured it in a more thematic way although you do raise good points.Kelevra wrote:Scott wrote:How so?Kelevra wrote:K, now it's getting a bit odd.

There's probably a lazy animation developers could do for some vehicles, or at least a lazy explanation as to why they get in so quick. Like a teleport or something to that effect. Maybe humans can't go in synthetic-only vehicles? The game could diverge from Battlefield more and have more exclusive and different race options.

Instead of starting up a new thread:
The ability to save your map playlists and settings so you don't have to manually set everything up each time.
The ability to save your map playlists and settings so you don't have to manually set everything up each time.

Sounds like a great idea. Being able to name them as well as other general editing tools would be handy as well. Editing difficulties and eras would make getting into a playlist faster while allowing an option to change the era and difficulty would also be welcome.

How about online Coop/splitscreen? Kind of like 6 troopers(your friends) are stuck on hoth or felucia and must fight off waves the indigenous species until they are rescued... A survival mode if you will... And please make it diferent than Nazi zombies.

Is that an ancient tibetan dagger in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
