I agree, I would like them to be special units like Droidekas and magnaguards.

Then maybe they can be a little more lethal.

Like maybe using both arms to use with blasters.

I was thinking more along the lines of durability and damage with the blasters. in BF2 the SBD was the most accurate trooper class in the game but his firepower was weak compared to the republic rifles.

Wrist rockets are a bit too easy of a kill.
In BF1? definitely. In BF2? not so much.
That was mainly to due with BF2's terrible controls and aiming.

terrible? actually I believe it had more to do with the speed of the missiles in comparison to the speed of moment, plus they had a lower AOE than in BF1.

No it was terrible. The lag from the missile shots (with all missile type weaponry) made them useless and overall disappointing and frustrating to use. I was a Jet Tropper in the first game and did amazing with him. In the second game he is one of the most useless units because of the lag from shots and grenades, along with the clunky aiming.

I didn't really like the idea of custom classes. First off: Look at Call of Duty and how tons of players have much better weapons than others, who, because of that, must resort to using grenade-launchers to get a single kill. I just didn't like the customization in the PSP Battlefronts because they limited customization too much. I would rather go back to the class-based system like the console Battlefronts or kind of like Halo Reach where you choose a class then pick up weapons from the map. If there's a Battlefront III in the works, please no custom classes!

I've been thinking about this customisation for BF3 and I have made my decision on what I think would work best:

Mild customisation, you only get to customize small aspects of the troopers you control, so no colour change, no major armour changes, no race/sex changes i.e republic troopers will still look like republic troopers and relativly uniform in nature throughout the team.

So each class is broken down into components, for example lets take the republic trooper:

Primary weapon, only one weapon to choose from but can choose a single attachment:
armour piercing ammo ==> weapon does more damage, is effected more by recoil
rapid fire ammo ==> weapon fires more rapidly, less damage though
High efficiency components ==> more accurate, smaller rate of fire

Secondary weapon, can choose from a range of pistols, each with different properties
Pistol A ==> more damage, more recoil
Pistol B==> less dammage, rapid rate of fire
Pistol C==> takes longer to overheat

Then you can choose an armour enhancement:
Denser alloys ==> more health, moves more slowly
Self contained medical kit ==> health heals slowly over time, less health
Scrambler ==> screws with nearby enemy radar,

Then you can choose your equipment:
More ammo ==> twice the ammo!
communications equipment ==> identify targets for bombers
Radar booster ==> increases your local area scan

The you can choose your explosives:
Frags
Smoke grenades
EMP grenade ==> disables vehicles for 5 seconds and decreases droid accuracy for 10 seconds.

Then you can design a tiny tiny emblem for your dude to represent the battalion of this clone trooper, which is put on their fore arm.

The important things about these changes is that they should not effect the overall look of the republic trooper but offer minor non visual advantages and differences between players and you can play to your strengths. Any more customisation would result in an army that would just not look the same and not very professional, also friendly fire would get interesting with large amounts of customisation.

I like what you did with the list Tretarn. I would like to be able to change weapons.

I truly think appearance is less of an issue than balancing. I mean everyone will be wearing phase 2 battle armor as the republic, right? and everyone will be wearing stormtrooper armor as the Empire? So what if you can't tell if a person is an engineer by his costume. You could easily tell by weapons. I will say that appearance does play a role in battles. Think about Endor... The empire is at a tremendous disadvantage due to lack of camouflage.

I agree. I disliked the delay on the jet Troopers' EMP launcher, but I disagree on the note of clunky aiming. The "default" sensitivity was higher, but nothing that couldn't have been changed easily.

The sensitivity must've threw me off. The grenades and EMP definitely lagged though.

Definitely, and not to mention the EMP was slower, and ground troops moved faster. Playing BF2 and going back to BF1 makes you feel like you have cement on your legs.

I don't mind it. Jetpacks were cool when you were the fastest person on the battlefield. Not to mention you were flying.

I wish there was a better control scheme for it though, because in order to ascend or descend, I had to look away from my target on multiple occasions. Was it just me or did the jet packs' energy last longer in BF1?
