I'll look, but the leaked footage doesn't mean much anymore.

Hey, who knows. The people in the lucasarts game discussion forums like to think otherwise.

I'm being completely honest here. Do you think 512 AI players is too many? 256 (such as MAG) is awesome for online play but to have a game of scale (many LAATs in the air, many starfighters, many ground troops) there needs to be scale. If I was sniping and saw LAATs going around, starfighters crashing down, and troops rushing in by the 100s, well I'm getting tingly just thinking about it.

what leaked footage are we talking about here?! anyway, no 512 AI isn't too complicated. at least, I don't think so.

If you're talking about FRD's version, sadly the developed game that they made, is all but lost. LA may hold the IP of Battlefront, but they do not have ownership over what the dev. created. (Sadly, I wish it were different, but then again I wish LA didn't drop it ). I don't know what the forumers are thinking, but as a potential developer, I am all too familiar with my rights.

I wasn't referring to the leaked footage. Just ideas for the game :|)

On the note of 512 AI: possible? yes. practical? no. I would love to see it, but what kind of cuts we would have to take in graphics and human multiplayer capacity could be detrimental. I would love it, there is no way to express how awesome that would be. I've thought about how much was actually possible, and I think 512 is, but networking on that would be strenuous to program to say the least.

Scale it down for networking then. Have 512 offline, 256 online PS3, 128 online 360. If they could pull off decent online that is. To be honest I just need the offline and local multiplayer.

512 AI would be nuts but what are we talking about here? All running of one machine? Like Arosenivai said, you would have to scale back on graphics substantially and i'm not sure how complicated the AI could be, it would take alot of proccessing.

Also with that many units running around, the map would need to be much better, friendly fire would become an even bigger issue (remember those lovable team grenades?).

I could see a new type of AI comming into play with this many bots, i'd describe it as a commader AI, giving orders to the rest of the AI globally. Assigning troops thier classes and objectives:

i.e Storm Trooper 1, secure and defend CP 1.
Pilot 1 run transport between capital ship and control point 1, rapid insertion
Storm Trooper 2 enter transport and stay idol (reserve force, for rapid reinforcements)

Its then up to the individual AI to get there and decide on how best to achieve its objective.

At the same time the commander AI is monitoring deaths and AI unable to achieve thier objectives. As well as completed objectives.

So if the ground assault takes heavy casulties, the commander AI would task more soldier AI's to the ground assult. If an objective really goes to pot the commander AI could abandon the objective and re-assign its forces else where.

It would be complicated for sure but would ensure a good distribution of troops throughout the battle and make an opposing team unpredictable.

The objective updates could be displayed for the player in part of the window so they know what the AI is up to and can decide to help.

The developers could even give the option of designing thier own commander AI and having competitions over who designs the best AI :P

That's some pseudo code you got there :|

The commander AI is your system I assume? A playing unit would cause some difficulties.

Global AI's are a good basis, but they're extremely complicated. That's one reason why MAG, and other games get away with larger online human numbers: a severe lack of AI. So the majority of the processors functions go to rendering, networking, and managing the state machines. I, personally, am not too familiar with AI, so to say any more would be purely conjecture.

The AI in Battlefront 2 are so dumb. It would just be annoying battling 128-512 of the same AI.

Well we are assuming that they make the AI better.
