If Battlefront 3 does come out I think they should scrap most if not all of the ideas from the previous games and start fresh. If they do this then multiplayer will most likely not be where they're going to focus. Although it was the best selling Star Wars game of all time it had many, many flaws. They're going to have to overhaul the maps, units, and AI especially. The last battlefront is old too so they have no models to work with or even the same systems. It's going to be a long and hard process but I don't think they'll make a MAG like announcement. Fingers crossed for Battlefront 3 2010.

"A massive action battlefront would be cool and hopefully something emerges like this"
You know massive action battlefront is a spin off of the game MAG right? It does offer 256 players online and is coming out this month (I think). Unfortunately for PC gamers and anyone who doesn't own a PS3 it's exclusive to PS3.
Also, again to Ironman21, have you played Killzone 2? The AI in the game is pretty tight. You coiuld probably find interviews and such of the developers explaining it. All that I know is that sets of enemies work in squads and they'll work together to coax you out of cover and flank you. They also aren't just targets either, as they'll run back if you try to melee them which will get you shot by the rest of the squad or just shoot you in the head on approach. If Battlefront 3's AI can come close to this it will surely be pretty sweet.

This is to Scott
I have played Killzone 2, and the AI in that game are totally amazing. It seriously feels like you are fighting humans, and everything. However, I still believe that you can never simulate human behavior. Like say, in a multiplayer setting, if I have low health and my buddies are pinned down, I will sacrifice myself to let them get away, where as AI would try to heal and do the same thing which would take longer and squad mates would die. If that makes any sense, thats my opinion of the AI

That's why I like the idea of online play.

thats why I do too
you can't expect whats going to happen. you might think he'd go for health but instead he charges and shoots you in the head

I do agree with you I'm just saying even in a campaign or skirmish scenario, Battlefront's AI was weak and can take lessons from other games. Also I believe if a developing team took the time it takes, they could make the unpredictable like that. I'll use your scenario to make my point. If an AI was going to go for health but saw you:
His program could check is line of sight, find you, the health, and make a random decision based on statistics ( 10:1 chance he goes for the health) to attack you or get the health.
He could just shoot you.
He could just get the health.
The other scenario you used was a low health player fighting his way to the front to save you.
The AI's program could check his surroundings, find a group of soldiers, find a live enemy mine, check his and your health, make another random decision based on statistics to kill himself to save you or just forget about both of you.
If a developer spent the time (which would be alot) to go through every possible scenario with AI making them like humans then they would seem like humans. But this would take alot of time and resources. But can be done. Although humans can also make stupid decisions too although making the decisions random rather that right it part of the "human feel" to the AI. I myself am very interested in trying stuff like this on a small scale, using squares and circles instead of stormtroopers. Never the less great human like AI can be done but I highly doubt very mane Studios will do it.

You make a good point. If they took the time to make the AI take random decisions in different situations, it would be awesome. The thing is, hopefully they take the time to do that though, I would rather wait a year than a month and have a crappy game come out instead of an awesome game in a year.

Technically in this sense the AI do have minds. Every plan mark is connected to another, but almost always, all the plan marks that are in the same area are connected to each other. An exception would be Mustafar, where if they did connect all the plan marks, the number of reinforcements would drop to zero real fast, due to everyone falling into lava.
My point is, it's like they can still decide where they're going, thanks to the randomizer built into the game. So you cannot always tell what they will do next.

very true, this would get AI killed on mustafar real quick, but hopefully bf3 will have a brand new AI system and will be intensly better with everything

It will likely be similar to BF2. Meaning they may be using ZE again, and thus, same mapping system. And that would mean same concept for planning: Many places where they can run, but if they could get just a few more in, then you never could tell wether or not an AI was doing something.

Wow no internet for 2 weeks and I come back to this. Anyway 256 people playing at once is crazy!!!
<<<<MM>>>>>

It does sound pretty cool. I'm playing it this weekend to write a review :geek: . If your interested check it out Monday in the MAG Bf3 clan topic in the General Chit Chat thread.
