I think the ability to actually command your capitol ships and support vessels around the space map would bring a new level of strategy to the game. However, unlike fighters, you don't directly control the vessel, instead it goes to an overhead view (something like the spawn menu) and you get to basically point and click where you want the ships to go, and how you want it to reorient itself. For example, you could try and position your support ships under the enemy capitol ship so they can get a batter shot at life support systems.
Commanders would also be able to request new frigates and support ships be sent into the battle, however doing so will cost a chunk of reinforcement points.
Control could be given out much like is is in Battlefront II, assigned to the best player by default, or just given to a player at random. How long you keep this is based on a system similar to the hero's lightsaber health bar. taking damage will reduce your control, while causing damage increases it. Losing/destroying a critical system will add or detract heavily from your command.

It would be cool, but I'm able to see people -attempting- to ram their capital ship into the enemies for some quick points, lol.
And maybe the ships will have a much more fluid layout than the capital ships in BF2, I mean, I want to go up to the bridge of the Capship and ruin their comms and whatnot...

I actually was thinking of the ramming idea when I came up with the concept. Maybe there could be a sort of proximity warning, and if you get too close your control meter starts to drop rapidly. But ramming as a last resort - like if you're about to lose anyway would be pretty cool.Arrowstorm wrote:It would be cool, but I'm able to see people -attempting- to ram their capital ship into the enemies for some quick points, lol.

Yeah, I think it would be cool as a last resort, if you're going down..might as well take them with you!
Or maybe when you're about to get rammed, -if- you can make it to the escape pods, you can shoot down to the planet surface and continue fighting there.

That is literally one of the coolest things I've ever heard. The game design behind that though would have to be epic.Arrowstorm wrote:Or maybe when you're about to get rammed, -if- you can make it to the escape pods, you can shoot down to the planet surface and continue fighting there.
Just think, your on the ground in a shoot out. You see a huge ship crash in the distance and then all of a sudden streams of wind fly everywhere with pods at the end of them. BOOM one lands in front of you and you go flying back. You get up to see 3 of your allies there shooting at the enemy as you join up and push them back. *sigh* we can only hope.

Aye, if the game was like that..I would be constantly in space wanting to escape-pod down to the surface.

It'd be awesome of the entire Capitol ship itself drifted into the atmosphere once destroyed and debri crashed into the map, potentially changing the whole layout of the ground battle.

You dream highly my friend. The design behind that what have to be INSANE. Realistically it was just break some stuff and not change too much (unless you were standing where it crashed). That's why their called ideas and wishes though

Unless they have the battleship crash in the distance with a big explosion and the screen shaking for a few seconds, or if in a city map some backdrop buildings would collapse and dust would spread over the battlefield for a few minutes.

I like Kelevra's idea but it was just be some darn hard for them to do.

I know it's just EXTREMELY wishful thinking on my part. But if they've got the seamless ground/space map, and two fully designed pieces of the map. The ground and the capitol ship) then the biggest part for them would be making the impact itself. They could always just make it a huge scripted event.

I think a crash scene ala TFU or maybe an impact explosion killing all units in the radius would be cool.

Actually, the game could play a cutscene of the capitol ship crashing, while loading the new map in the background, and when it ends, the newly trashed map starts. It sort of breaks the awesomeness of seeing the carrier smash into the ground right in front of you, but it would still be pretty cool.

The cutscene would really ruin the fluidity though. It could work but seamless is best.

Yeah, that's the big issue. Only other thing I could think of is the ship breaking apart and really large chunks of it smashing into the map, instead of the whole thing.
