Hello! Longtime lurker, although I've never posted before. I came across this fine theory from southAfRknCraka on Reddit, and figured it would be good to share. It's purely speculation, but I think it makes sense, and would be a good move.

Makes perfect sense. Would bring life to not only Battlefront, but Star Wars in general.
The thing is, Battlefront wasn't just put on "let's wait and see" status. The project was actively sabotaged and cancelled by LucasArts. Considering the gap in time between when Battlefront 3 was 'new' (07-08) and whenever the next set of films comes out (2015+), They'd essentially have to start over from scratch.
And with LucasArts now under the control of Disney, we'd now have to convince both of them that a game like Battlefront (along with all of the other good SW titles that we want to see again) is still profitable.

Well, I would hope they see the market for a product like this. Star Wars games (and media in general) still sell well, and shooters sell well in general too, so making a Star Wars shooter would be prudent. I would bet that First Assault is going to be kind of a market test to see if the interest is still around for a Star Wars shooter title, and could lead to a Battlefront on the following generation of consoles, around when the movie comes out in 2015.
Yeah, Star Wars game do sell well.
The problem is that Star Wars games will sell well whether it's Battlefront, Angry Birds, or Kinect junk. LucasArts isn't going to bother putting forth the time, effort, and resources into an expensive project like Battlefront when they can just patch together some shovelware junk and make just as much money out of it.
They need to be convinced that something like Battlefront, or Republic Commando, Jedi Knight, X-Wing and everything else we want to see will be worth all of that extra work.

This is making me kind of sad.
Yeah.
The way to fix this problem is to encourage people to be smart about what products they buy, instead of having them eat up anything and everything with STAR WARS written on it. When LucasArts/Disney sees that all of this low effort stuff is no longer profitable, they'll turn their attention towards the demands of the community, and we'll start seeing the things we actually want.
Not gonna happen overnight, though.

I have said the same thing to my friends for a long time. It's a business the game company and their number one focus is to make money. If they can make money the cheap, easy, kid-friendly way they will continue to do so.Re: A Solid Theory

The only problem is that 90%, and that's generous, of people won't limit what star wars junk they buy to the good stuff.Slicer4427 wrote:I have said the same thing to my friends for a long time.
