Helmet HUD

Hey guys, I'm new here, so forgive me if this has been posted.

I think it would be so cool if BF3 had an in-helmet HUD like Republic Commando. For each faction it would be a little different: clones would be very similar to RC, stormtroopers have a more advanced looking one, droids have more numbers and are more rigid interface, and rebels have a free-floating flip-up display kind of like the antenna Mandalorians have.

The HUD could be deactivated or the helmet removed in order to clear up your field of view at the cost of your information.

If it was 3D, similar to the way Crysis does (except info would be integrated with your visor), then I can see it being very immersive.

Anyway, it is a rough idea, thoughts?

I believe it has been brought up before, but no worries. It hasn't gotten it's own thread.

I'm all for this as long as extra components aren't added to the HUD for the sake of making it look busy.

I think that it can look busy enough with your ammo display, map, health/shields, and vitals/stamina without looking too cluttered. If it moved around a little like in Crysis, it would look even more there if you get my meaning.

I'm not sure I do. I have Crysis but don't know what you're referring to.

I think he's referring to making the HUD look like it's actually an in-universe accessory of the character rather than just a thing that is overlayed on your TV/monitor.

I wasn't aware Crysis did anything special. I'm going to have to give it a shot and see sometime.

Yeah, if you ever play Crysis 2 or look at a video of it, it is kind of like a more modernized version of what Republic Commando was doing with the Helmet HUD. In both games, it actually feels like you're in that helmet, which would be really cool for a game like this.

Okay, this is a crudely drawn HUD . Basically, it'll tell you where your squad is moving to, when one of your teams cruisers are gone, your heartrate(make it two high, and you can suffer a heart attack), also in the third picture there is a panel on your controller that you can press to call for back-up, tell others you're on your way, call a gunship to get you out of an area, and cycle through your team members. Again, very crude, I'm going to try and redefine it but we'll see...

Any of you guys ever play Section 8 or Section 8 Prejudice? Their HUD style would be good for the SWB3, look it up, I can't post a pic since it's blocked on the school comp. It relays information, shows where your teamates are, your shields, health, weapon ammo and clip count, etc.

Never played it. Is it for computer only, or can it do PS3?

The drawings are pretty good, a good place to start. I think that any notifications should pop up along the side, not just if a cruiser is blown up, but good idea there. It can probably be simplified and only display context sensitive info such as health and ammo plus a minimap if you choose. For reference, this is the Crysis HUD, I like how it kind of wraps around the glass of your helmet. Image

That actually looks really good. For the wiping of substances, should that be involuntary, orthere be a button, or toggle you can press or set...? Because if your in the middle of a firefight and you suddenly stop because you have to wipe your visor, that may piss many players off, i.e (You had to wipe right then as I was about to sniper that guy! Come on!)

A Realistic HUD would be cool, especially if it gets dented and stuff and your view gets blurred. But you should be able to disable it. I wouldn't like it all the time (even though I normally play 3rd Person! :lol: )
