Job Description
Gameplay Engineers will develop gameplay related functionality (controls, camera movement, game rules, etc) in C++ and UnrealScript or other scripting languages and interact closely with designers, artists, and animators to bring the vision of the game to life.
Implement gameplay or AI functionality using core engine features
Co-develop gameplay & features in partnership with game designers, artists, animators, and core programming staff
Reliably create good quality, performance-minded code
Assist in the sharing of ideas and exploration of new practices to continually improve the quality of game development within the studio
Maintain a professional attitude and strive to maximize team and departmental performance
Requirements
3+ years experience in the creation and delivery of state-of-the-art, performance-minded console games
Proficient C/C++ programming experience
Console game development experience required (At least one title)
Ability to work independently and to be self-directing
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent game experience.
Preferred proficiency in UnrealEngine3 and UnrealScript
Preferred experience with Action-Adventure titles

LucasArts quietly posted a couple new job openings the other day with the aim of filling out a team to work on what is described as “an unannounced first-person shooter”. Available positions include Senior AI Engineer, Senior Animator, Senior Core Engineer, and Gameplay Engineer. The descriptions of these positions suggest that this will be a game made in Unreal Engine 3 and could see a release on both current and future generation systems as well as the PC.
Star Wars games have had their ups and downs over the years, but the franchise’s track record is notably more solid when it comes to FPS games in particular, producing many memorable series such as Jedi Knight, Battlefront and Republic Commando. It’s been quite awhile since we’ve had a new entry in any of these properties. Could this mystery game be a sequel to one of those, or perhaps something new? Place your bets!
