Re: more realistic

ok so when i said go in a COD direction (and i was just using COD as an example), i guess i was way to general. by no means do i want this game to go into an M rating. I basically want the game play to feel more like war. adding more detail to units and the environment. I was talking about adding melee moves and the ability to pick up guns, i realize this takes away the class choosing, but maybe they could add stuff to classes that cant be picked up another player. i also like the way conversations were carried out in COD, if they could do something like that, that would be cool. the lay out and maps of the whole game are great, they need to keep those. but if there was more interaction with the environment, that is mainly what i am looking for. and to put in rag doll effects with explosions, and the occasional severed limb, occasional enough to keep in the T range though. or if a unit gets blasted, it would be awesome if every once in a while a helmet flew off. and the way the campaign is played needs to stay the same as well that is perfect. im just saying, take some aspects from popular war games like COD and the into SBF, not so much that they are the same game but enough to keep them totally separate. i think it would be an awesome game,

There's no need for anyone to get upset. Forums are a place to share opinions. Also I'd recommend you be careful and use a better word next time for your final sentence.

Now that I've finally played (well, owned) Battlefield, which of course Battlefront is a copy of, I can really see how much Battlefront (as I will now be calling BFr) sucks.

I'm not saying it's a bad game, but it does NOT capture the feeling of war. One big reason is it's third person perspective. Next is the lackluster feeling of shooting a laser instead of a mortar. And of course there's the vehicle selection and map setup. In BFi you can go around speeding around mortar and tank fire in a jeep, narrowly avoiding death. In BFr, you can drive a speeder, hit a tree, and die. BFr can be more in-depth and immersive with the 3rd person view, but not with the toy-ish feeling it has now.

Battlefront does have a first person camera option.

Anyway, I agree with the 'not feeling like a battle' thing. Really if you took out the novelty of Battlefront being a Star Wars title, it isn't very good on its own.

I recall the first time I played on the Endor map, I slammed a speederbike full speed into a tree, and just bounced off. According to the film... that shouldn't have happened.

I wouldn't go for making the battles feel entirely real, since it's at it's basics, a sci-fi/fantasy shooter.. But they should feel like "Star Wars"

One thing to make the lasers feel more powerful would be to add a smoke effect at the point of impact of the laser (same as the movies). It would add a much more viseral feel to the slightly childish feel they have now.

I also DO know of the first person perspective, but of course it was made as a 3rd person shooter. This is not a bad thing although 1st person can sometimes feel more immersive (although Uncharted 2 seems to prove that wrong).

They should also mix up the laser colours. It's not as if they can't just pass it off as a new weapon if calling it a blaster would offend the Star Wars fans that expect red lasers to come out. I think it would be cool if you were to look at a command post you would want to capture, see green lasers, and know to take more caution because he has an upgraded rifle. Also, my idea for different types of CPs would still be slick.

There's actually a Battlefront II mod that has a special game mode like that. Each command post brings a different bonus to the side that controls it.

But anyway, Didn't the weapons themselves generate smoke in the original trilogy when they fired?

I think part of making the lasers more realistic would be varying the sounds more. So far we always hear the same sounds while in the films each weapon had its own sound. It seems like the only weapon sounds they got right are the most obvious ones (X-Wings, TIE fighters, etc)

I put "same as the movies" in brackets. And yes, they did create smoke.

Being a proud owner of dial-up internet, I never got to download mods. That does sound cool though and hope it is implemented in the third installment.

Erm... 'More realistic' you do realise that we are talking about a game from a movie set thousands of years in the past with far superior technology to us and laser rifles, strange aliens, Magnificent Jedi's with some sort of Light-sword (+ Obi-wan!)

'More realistic'

Good luck! :D

Melee sounds interesting.

How about more force powers for the Jedi/Sith (only having 2 force powers is just crazy).

I hate to sound ironic but how can one really consider a single knife wound devastating and the ability to pick up guns that you are unfamiliar with, and be able to fire, perfectly used to the recoil, reloading and aiming. It bothers me sometimes that people actually consider COD realistic...

anyway, melee would be interesting, but only to the extent that it's not overpowered. In terms of realism, soldiers hit enemies with the butt of the rifle to disorient them so they can back up and take their shot, they don't expect to kill them at all, until after they pull the trigger. A powerful melee detracts entirely from the FPS element, because too many people would abuse it. So in honesty, it would scare me if they added melee to Battlefront.
