UK Election 2010

Post by Matthew »

It's all over, except for one seat delayed until the 27th, and the Conservatives have received the most seats but not an overal majority. There is a likely possibility that the conservatives will create a coalition with the Liberal Democrats which is interesting. There is also confusion on what will happen with the Prime Minister position.

I couldn't vote because my 18th is in July. However, if another election is called again soon, which can apparently likely happen in hung parliaments, I should be able to vote then. I would need to look into each party much more closely to make a proper decision but I would almost certainly go with the Liberal Democrats.

What do people have to say about this and do people care about it from other countries?

I am sort of interested in elections. Not so much UK elections (no offense :)) and not really Canadian politics (not current politics anyway). American politics finally got my attention with the last election. But that's about it. I know your prime minister has problems with people expressing their culture (okay that one was cheap :() but that's about it.

I'm not sure whats going to happen in this one, I think it will either go down in one of three ways:

Conservatives and lib dems form a coalition, cameron sells his soul, lib dems get thier proportional representation referendum.

Conservatives and lib dems form a coalition but nick clegg sells his sould purley to get on the cabinet and mediate some of the policies.

Then number three will be another election because labour + lib dems + every other fringe party are not going to be able to form a workable coalition against the conservatives. So the next election comes, the conservatives are the only ones who kept enough money behind to run a second election campaign, lib dems lose a few more seats, labour lose more. Conservative majority.

or perhaps the monster raving loony party will have a landslide?

A Coalition between the Liberal Democrats, Labour and many small parties would certainly be fragile and the electorate wont like it at all because it's not fair and democratic. This will give more popularity to the Conservatives and, you are right, it would result in a Conservative majority.

Here's a video I made,

David Cameron is obsessed with China, Nick Clegg thinks things can't be done but rather likes the idea of the Typhoon fighter project and Gordon Brown wants to put Britain back on the road to recession.
