Spark replied to someone on Twitter that asked them if the game will have the #3 in the title. This is a standard, and annoying, question that people ask Spark all the time but this time they replied with this:

@sparkunlimited will the title of the game have the number 3 in it?

@iwantbf3 I do know what the title will be. Seems subtitles are in and numerals are out these days.
Apparently, since we know they're working on a title that's a sequel to a popular science fiction franchise, it will not have a numbered title, i.e. Battlefront 3, but rather a subtitle, for example Battlefront: Renegade Squadron.
This is no way hints at what the game might be, but if we would like to assume the game in development is Battlefront 3, then this might help understand the direction they're taking with the game. Whatever the title is, if I'm reading into this tweet correctly I don't think it will be called Battlefront 3 even if it is a Battlefront.

But he just said that he didn't know what the title was, so it's still possible that it will be called Battlefront 3.
Unless it's going to be called Battlefront: Three
Unless it's going to be called Battlefront: Three

Well, after "Saints Row The Third" that's probably a possibility.

At least we know the prequels were numbered.

Actually he said he did know what the title was, just that he wasn't saying.Terrabyte20xx wrote:But he just said that he didn't know what the title was, so it's still possible that it will be called Battlefront 3.

The only reason I can fathom why LA would want to remove the '3' is so they can market the game to the broadest audience possible.
If the game was released with the 3 attached, casual gamers who have no prior experience with the series might assume that playing the first two is necessary to fully enjoy the third one (in the same way one would think with the numerical Uncharted games). On the other hand, if LA removed the 3 and attached a generic tagline, those gamers who haven't played the series before might assume it is a standalone title that is seperate from the previous games (just like Elite Squadron and Renegade Squadron), hence no prior knowledge of the first two games would be required.
That's pretty much why the new Syndicate, XCOM(FPS & RTS) and SSX games don't have numbers applied to them, because nowadays it's generally easier to sell a game to the massess when it's either rebooted or standalone.

Really good point.
And it might get very confused with Battlefield 3 hence when you type bf3 on google, Battlefield 3 comes on as first result. So taking out the 3 is a good idea.drunken hutt wrote:The only reason I can fathom why LA would want to remove the '3' is so they can market the game to the broadest audience possible.

I actually hope Spark Unlimited does not make battlefront 3, I would like them to make a Battlefront reboot.
After all these years it would make sense..... but I still want the 3.

How do you differentiate reboot and a new Battlefront? At this point even a sequel ("3") would be a reboot to me.Battlefront Teen wrote:I actually hope Spark Unlimited does not make battlefront 3, I would like them to make a Battlefront reboot.

Yeah, I was gonna say. Battlefront 2 wasn't a sequel to Battlefront 1. It was just an upgrade that happened to be the 2nd game made so they called it Battlefront 2. Any Battlefront they make will have the prequel stuff and the empire stuff. I guess technically BF2 was a reboot, but that makes it sound like the first was bad. In my opinion, the first game was the better one.

Like spartan64 said, it could just be something like "Star Wars Battlefront: The Third (insert verb/noun here)." additionally, roman numerals are not technically numbers, although they do represent numbers in a similar way to that of the way a word represents a number it's assigned to. I.E.: "three" represents the number 3. So, the name "Star wars Battlefront III," although unlikely, is still not entirely ruled out.
I don't think it would be ": The Third." It would seem a lot more likely to have an original name like :Elite Squadron. I would like it to have a name anyway. Don't want to fall prey to the final fantasy disease now do we.Leaf_It wrote:Like spartan64 said, it could just be something like "Star Wars Battlefront: The Third (insert verb/noun here)." additionally, roman numerals are not technically numbers, although they do represent numbers in a similar way to that of the way a word represents a number it's assigned to. Sorry, what I meant it to say was: Star Wars Battlefront: The Third (insert verb/noun here)
Such as Star Wars Battlefront: The Third Squadron, or something to that effect.
I don't care either way.
