Yes the Galactic Warfare mod is an old one that I have seen many times. I don't really see how this fits in with news & rumors though.

I used to regularly play Galactic Warfare, but there were few servers and most of the time they were empty. If the mod got more exposure (and perhaps become a standalone game) then it would perhaps get the attention of L.A, which would probably pressure them to make similar Star Wars games.
