Laser Hell

Post by Terrabyte20xx »

Now if you are a gamer, than you probably are familiar with the term "Bullet Hell". What this term means,(just in case you don't know.) is a shooter where bullets are everywhere.

Using this knowledge, I have coined the term Laser Hell. I want Battlefront 3 to be a Laser Hell shooter, like in the movies. Laser's are flying every where, troopers are yelling about reinforcements, blast marks on the walls and ceiling. Due to this I want better cover. If you can't dodge the lasers, block it.

What do you guys think? Am I crazy for wanting this, or is this a good idea? Feel free to post your comments.

Yea Ive been wanting better cover for Battlefront. Also lasers flying everywhere can only be achieved if there are tons of people like MAG. Otherwise youre not gonna have enough people shooting to create a "laser hell".

I mostly just call it spraying bullets or hip firing but I suppose bullet hell works.

I wouldn't mind a very simple cover system for BF3 but nothing where it becomes a cover based shooter.

Exactly. Just a simple cover behind the wall like in GTA IV. We don't need this to turn into Gears of Battlefront. It irked me that the whole point of Gears of War seemed to be more about how cool it was to duck and cover or roll around instead of actual gameplay. It was kind of gimmicky. I mean, can you imagine if Gears of War didn't have a cover system and it was just the regular game? I bet not nearly as many people would talk about it.

It's part of a certain niche. Some people like having 'realistic' elements in games. Cover works as a mechanic in Gears of War and various other games. I doubt it would work well in any Star Wars games, save for perhaps Republic Commando.

As far as the 'bullet hell' suggestion goes for Battlefront, That is entirely up to the players. If you have everybody showing a complete lack of concern for accuracy and effectiveness, and just holding down their trigger buttons the entire match, You'll probably get what you want. But I guarantee nothing is gonna get killed outside of a few stray shots.

In short, it would look nice visually if you're into seizures, but it's not gonna happen unless a lot of incompetent players (or very terrible AI bots) end up in the same match.

When it comes to the cover system, I didn't mean one like Gears, I meant more around the idea that you would crouch behind stuff, not constant roll behind cover.

As for the Laser hell I came up with, I guess the best way for me to get what I want, would be to maximize how many people you can put on one game.

Gears of war cover: NO
Uncharted cover: better but NO

I would prefer something more like Brink where there's not a button that activates a wall stick. In Brink you can scope and then use the directional arrows to tilt and I like that. Also Killzone 3 has a simple cover mechanic which is fun... and both of these cover systems don't cause the game to become a peek fest
