Mandalorian Continuity

Post by Wevans199 »

Hi this is my first ever post in any forum so if it's in the wrong area I apologise. I just was wandering if anyone had read the republic commando series by Karen Traviss and was interested in people's opinions on the way the clone wars tv series completely ignored the carefully constructed Mandalorian backstory my making them peaceful, effectively killing off the RC series. If anyone has any other thoughts on the series I'd love to hear them as I'm a big fan.

Welcome Wevan199.

I'm an ardent reader of the Republic Commando book series as well and I can't believe why George Lucas would authorise the current depiction of Mandalore. When I first saw that Clone Wars episode, I was shocked seeing the dome cities covering the planet and the monarchy rule of a Queen. As I'm sure you know, this goes completely against the agrarian geography of the planet's surface and the chieftain/ clan governmental structure of Traviss' books. The only thing in the Mandalorian episodes that related to the books was the existence of the terrorist group Death Watch (even then they were interpreted differently).

Unfortunately, this sort of cannon-breaching has been happening several times throughout the Clone Wars TV series. The Jedi Master Even Piell had his death 'rewritten' late in Season 3, when he had actually died in the Coruscant Nights Trilogy of books several years earlier. In Season 2, Jedi Master Eeth Koth made an appearance, even though it was stated in a source book years earlier that he had died during the Battle of Geonosis. And then there's many more inconsistencies, which will need major retconning.

Wookieepedia reveals quite a few of them

I agree. Another thing that annoys me about the clone wars (but does fit in with the themes of Traviss' books) is the way it depicts clone troopers deaths. jedi barely bat an eyelid when the clones get killed and they are treated as droids in my opinion. When the clone wars was revealed I assumed it would be more about them, but no such luck, i guess.
