Thanks to Sam's post for bringing this up in my head. I'm kinda undecided between a lot of these games but I came across X-Rebirth (release date: 27/04/2012) which looks kind of awesome.

Define 'Space RTS'
Because if you mean an RTS that includes space to any capacity, my answer will always be Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds.

'Space' as in space only.

[NEVERMIND]Dawn of War Dark Crusade.
The lore from Warhammer 40, 000 basically started much of the now modern sci fi genre. A fantastic game with interesting and unique races. Highly reccomended.
Starcraft I or II are also good. Unfortunately when Blizzard was developing it they decided to base the races around the 40k races, as many people decided to later on. Now space marines and space Orks are cliched instead. Luckily the Warhammer lore is still much more interesting than anything to come out of Starcraft or Fallout (another schiester).
Basically I have a distrust to all space based scifi due to people stealing from my beloved 40k. So look into Dawn of War (ONE) and Starcraft.[/NEVERMIND]
