:8(:

To be honest, I have never played Gears of War, so I really don't know if it's better or not...

@Scott, tell us why...

Both franchises have their merits (except Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Wars, Halo: ODST, and Halo Reach) but I find Gears is an overall better game.

Halo, despite being new when first released, has been done so many times it comes off very generic now. Gears however has only had 2 major releases and the second was a huge improvement over the first.

I could keep going but I might as well hold some points until someone from Halo's side replies.

Also if anyone is wondering, this is meant to be a tad bit of a flamewar. Keep it intelligent and follow the standard forum rules!

Until I play Gears of War, I cannot discuss about it.

Halo Combat Evolved change the way how shooters are depicted on consoles and won many awards including Game of the Year. It was the launch title for the Xbox and it's success depended on Halo's success.

Halo 2 broke many records Halo 1 had including the best selling Xbox title and still holds that title along with being the number 1 most played Xbox Live title on the old Xbox to date. Battlefront 2 was number 2.

Halo 3 was the first halo title on the 360 and was the first to receive the graphical update and changes made to the new Xbox Live. It remained the best selling Xbox 360 title until Black Ops beat it last year.

Never played Gears.

Hey guess what? I've played both! So I can compete!

Gears of War:
Pros: Gore, Gore, Gore, Gore, and lots of blood.
Blind fire over cover
3rd person
Cons: Confusing Story

Halo:
Pros: 4-Player Split Screen(which includes 4-Player Split Screen online)
1st person
Better understandable story
Cons: No sprint until Reach
"Slow" feel to combat, especially if no vehicles and large map
Lags ALOT on X360, and I mean on the Single Player!

The two games don't seem to compare well, as they are on the same system and are different genres. 3rd Person vs 1st Person isn't too comparable. I have only played Gears of War 1 so I based this off of Gears of War 1 vs Halo 3, as that would be a little more fair, as they were around the same time.

The thing though with Halo is the multiplayer aspect. If you have 3 friends over, you can play a 4-Player split screen match offline or online. Gears of War however only has 2-Player split screen if I remember right.

Halo also has a better, and to me a more understandable story. There are even a bajillion books about Halo out. I can remember some events from Gears of War, I just don't know why they happened...

This was from only playing these games on a X360 at my dads, which I go to every other weekend, too :)-

I say Halo 3: ODST wins though, as there was no competitive n00bness in it, and your aren't an overpowered Spartan. And the sense of humor

Now I'm ashamed I didn't come up with such an ingenious plan like that.

To be honest, I'm a Halo fan but I'm playing Gears of War 2 right now for the first time.

My experience:

Halo: limited, never played through the campaign, played lan parties which were fun
Halo 2: played some campaign, lan parties were awesome but online people were so good and the weapons felt unbalanced to me. Basically, if you didn't pick up the sniper rifle or weren't decent with it you were going to get killed left and right. I hate games where I can't really improve my skill. This game made me hate sniper campers. Also, if someone was in a tank outside your base, it was very difficult to kill them.
Halo 3: bought it, loved it, played it through. Thought they polished the story up real nice and had a lot of cinematic qualities to both the game and story. They introduced the Forge and Theater features in this game which basically let's people record or replay any of their last 25 played games and even fly in free-cam around while the game is playing out. It has let people prove the way they got a kill or show off something crazy that they saw happen in a game. This still amazes me. Would still play it online only most people are on Reach. They balanced the weapons out and made the campaign great. It ties everything together.
Halo Reach:It's the game I play the most. I probably play it 4-5 times a week exclusively. The story is incredibly sad and is begging to be made into a movie. Great levels and customization and a better ranking system online than Halo 3. It matches people up better so you don't get owned constantly.

Gears of War 1: played through the campaign. It was cool. Don't remember much about it except for that one level where you have to shine the searchlight on your partner in the darkness as they walk along or else they'll get shredded by those evil bats or whatever they are. I thought that was an impressive idea. I didn't feel like I had much control of my character in multiplayer, plus I don't remember if there are vehicles or not but I like them. I guess Halo spoiled me.

Gears of War 2: have only played through the first 2 levels of campaign so far, no multiplayer. I liked the first one enough to give the 2nd one a chance. It's cool so far. I just prefer Halo more I guess.
