Its a trademark for the term 'Battlefront' that was filed yesterday by Lucasfilm for "Interactive entertainment software and accompanying instruction manuals sold as a unit, namely, computer game software and manuals sold as a unit, video game software and manuals sold as a unit; video game software, computer game software" :)

Nice! But... Shouldn't this be in News and Rumors?

Who cares about that? I could sure as hell go for that Battlefront 'toy modeling dough kit and accessories for use therewith'

Looks to me LA are planning on rebooting the Battlefront games. Though, one would think LA would have already filed a trademark for the series given that the first game came out years ago.

They have, I'm not sure why they filed it again though. But they've also recently filed Starfighter and Bounty Hunter trademarks too, which they have already had trademarked. It is also rumored that they are working on new versions of those games as well. Makes me wonder if the new Bounty Hunter game will be that open world RPG that has just been found via job listings. Heres the link to the Starfighter rumor (about a year old) http://www.computerandvideogames.com/24 ... G-News-RSS . Again im not sure why they trademarked again.. but usually when theres smoke theres fire :D

But I don't think it'll necessarily be a reboot of the original Battlefront. Although its not trademarked as 'Battlefront III', there is no trademark for Battlefront II either, I assume they didn't feel the need as they already had Star Wars Battlefront trademarked. Maybe the old trademark was just too old or something.. not sure...im just thinking out loud at this point

Edit #2: Actually I think i found out why it was trademarked again. Originally lucasarts had 'Star Wars Battlefront' trademarked for 'computer games, dvds, etc.' only, but the new 'Battlefront' trademark not only has the 'computer games' section, but also 'toys', 'online social networking', 'books', and whatnot. I guess that way they can also use the trademark for all that stuff as well, sort of like what they did with TFU franchise.

If there's enough material in Battlefront to warrant books and toys, I'm going to guess they're moving away from a simple arcade shoot-the-hell-out-of-everything formula to something more story-oriented.

Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I guess if there's some kind of story driven campaign, it'd be alright. So long as I get to ignore the hell out of it and hang around in "Instant Action" forever.

If we can assume that all of this is true (in the sense that they are looking into the different avenues) then it looks like BF is not only getting a sequel but a complete franchise reboot.

Games
Books
Toys
...etc

With that kind of dedication before any announcement it could be assumed they are pouring lots of money into it. LA has had little of anything lately so they must be looking for money again finally.

Can't say I'm not excited :)-

I'm maintaining cautious optimism. Last time they dumped cash into something like this, we got The Force Unleashed.

I'm really hoping they don't think that just stamping BATTLEFRONT on the boxes will give them an excuse to half-ass stuff.

I have a feeling that won't happen. I think that they realized with TFU that you need lots of money and creative ideas. Sure, TFU wasn't that great in execution, but the ideas were there. For Battlefront, the execution shouldn't be that hard but new ideas are an obvious must.

Who knows though. They could still screw it up. Who's to say it will even be announced/released? I'm always optimistically doubtful.

They better have a good community manager.

But think about it. If there isn't any new ideas. Like, if they release Battlefront 2 in HD for next gen consoles, we are all still gonna buy it. So, it's not REALLY essential.

I was referring to someone who talks to the community before and after development. If you weren't responding to my mention of a community manager then disregard what I just said.

You seem to be the exact opposite of the guy who came here with those huge ideas that were seemingly impossible. I hope for a lot more than just new graphics and maps.
