PS3. It Only Does Identity Theft

What the hell.
Welp. The PlayStation network has been down for nearly a week prior to this, with no solid explanation until yesterday. Pretty much all of the 75,000,000+ accounts on PSN and their details have been compromised, which is apparently the largest online data leak in history.
(People are pissed)

There are two reasons why I don't care all that much:
1) I have dial-up and although I have a PSN (from moving the PS3 to friend's house, etc) and it could be compromised, I have nothing for them to steal. Credit card companies will freeze transactions if your card is proved to be misused and will often get the funds back.
2) With so many people to steal from, your chances are low.
Of course, I'm a special case in not being an internet raging PS3 owner. I do hope Sony fixes this though as I'm tired of hearing about it.
EDIT:
Oh, and clever yet sort of crushing post title.

Well, aside from this barely functional computer, The PS3 is my only gaming platform. I can still play most of my games offline, and worst case scenario, I'll just order a new debit card.
Still, I'm hoping the people responsible get dealt with. Preferably very painfully.

I'm on PS3 exclusively too but am not a PS3 gamer. My condolences to those who online game though. I can imagine how much it would suck.
Oh well, back to Just Cause 2.

Well I have PS3 and it hasnt affected me much. I barely played online anyways. The only reason this sucks is because I cant DL demos and I just finished DLing the MAG dmo and I cant play it. Still without online the PS3 does about as much as my ps2 with better graphics.

Sony wrote:Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011,
certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account
information was compromised in connection with an illegal and
unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this
intrusion, we have:
1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a
full and complete investigation into what happened; and
3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our
network infrastructure by rebuilding our system to provide you
with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill
as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly
and efficiently as practicable.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident,
we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following
information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province,
zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation
Network/Qriocity password, login, password security answers, and handle/PSN
online ID. It is also possible that your profile data may have been obtained,
including purchase history and billing address (city, state/province, zip
or postal code). If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent,
the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained.
While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time,
we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card
data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution
we are advising that your credit card number (excluding security code) and
expiration date may also have been obtained.
For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email,
telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive
information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email,
asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification
or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you
are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the
entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are
fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your
password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity
user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we
strongly recommend that you change them as well.
To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss,
we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements
and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports.
We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of
this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working
around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as
possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will
continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to
protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and
secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority.
Please contact us at 1-800-345-7669 should you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment
For those who may be affected.

I would say that over 77 MILLION people potentially having their personal and credit card information stolen and plastered who knows where on the internet is in fact, a big deal. Especially for parents who may have just purchased a few things off the network for their kids, and may be completely unaware of what's happening.
Credit card lenders wont be happy if they have to replace those cards.
Not to mention the PR nightmare this will end up being for Sony. Their stock has already dropped since this deal started, and the
US Department of Homeland Security is involved with fixing this mess. People are pissed.
(By the way, the hackers are selling the credit card details of PSN users).
But yeah, totally not a big deal.

Thats a hilarious and perfect title for this post. How long did it take you to think of that?

Pretty much as soon as Sony releaved credit card info was lost.
However, somebody much smarter than me made a
much more hilarious video with the same title. (Language warning)

That is still just a rumor. Some random guy posted it on a forum( probably having some fun at others expense). Sony said that credit card were encrypted and that it did not have the 3-digit security code. It might be a big deal to Sony and their stock and whatnot, but to people who just want to play online its not.(Unless there is confirmation of stolen credit cards, THEN it becomes a big deal.)

Yea yea yea, XBL was hacked into twice, so Sony is still better
The sad part is that this is still about the OtherOS function being taken away, which really hurt hackers from hacking the system. Oh well, I got a Slim first, so I never got to use the feature anyway.
Sony is also making a "make good" plan as explained in one of their recent blog posts. Many gamers are thinking its Cross Game Chat, which is my guess, or maybe PS2 Software Emulation or PS2 games sold on PSN with trophies or something is what I hope.
Lastly, PSN is supposed to be up May 3rd. Cant freakin wait!!!
