you've heard of massive action game, right? 256 multiplayer online battles.
what if lucasarts is perhaps waiting on the development of online gaming technology? this is just a daydream i had earlier this evening, i have very little idea of what i'm talking about, but it does sound nice, right? imagine battling your way up and through the rankings of a star wars universe army; in the type of gameplay that we have seen in the 'leaked footage'. gee, that sounds just dandy, if you ask me.
any ideas on how something like this could be done? i've never delved much into the star wars universe beyond what is seen in the films.

This would be beyond awesome, and imagine if they got seamless ground->space in as well! Huge 256 player battles around Coruscant, and in space it'd be chaos!
Something I can only dream of though.
For a start the MAG game could just be given a Star Wars overhaul.

That would be wayyyyyy to many. 256 sounds okay, but 10000 people without your game even lagging??!?!?!?!
I think if they did that they would almost never have a complete game with that many on each side

I have to disagree. Free Radical could not get 16 players right so 256 or more would be a disaster, which alone is an understatement. Zipper Interactive is a much more respectable company in my opinion and I believe they can pull it off. You also must realize the technology that is behind 256 players online at once. The Lobby, the stat tracking, no lag, and the actual game. MAG is all based on the tech, while Battlefront is based on command posts and yaddadadada. I say 36 players at most until they get their act together.

I would say it would be cool, but honestly they didn't get it right, and lets get realistic guys
the system requirements and the server requirements to host 1000 players would be massive. I couldn't even imagine the requirements, without lag and completely synced.

Well, yeah no doubt it would be cool, but no one has the sys rq to do something like that, not even those people who have better everything than everyone else.
Can you say: laglaglaglaglaglaglaglaglaglaglaggylaggylag. Not going to happen.

the matchmaking system would have to be really good aswell. If you've ever played an online game like CS then you'll know how long it can take to get enough players in the wating room ready to go for a game

I think if something like this existed and they did it, they would have where you could join anytime, like halo. Where right in the middle you could drop in, choose a side, and then fight until the end. I couldn't see them making everyone wait so long to get so many people set up to fight.

Sounds a lot like BF2 if you ask me.

I have never played battlefront or bf2 online on a count of a lack of internet in the gaming room in my house

Well, then you are lucky, cuz I waisted a whole lot of time playing on Internet servers, and I had serious lag issues, even on the best of them.

yeah, it seems with all games on the internet, the only ones I've ever played that have been successful without lag some of the time is halo for my mac ibook. Yeah, but almost all games have problems, but maybe in bf3 they will have fixed the bugs since putting it on the ps3 and 360 will allow them to get wireless internet at better connection speeds

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but I don't know for sure if they are making it anymore, because of the Free Radical problem. Which even proves my point more: LucasArts can't work by themselves to make such a good online experience, when with Free Radical it sucked.
