A Response From Spark

Post by ShadowNB97 »

I had sent a message to Spark, and this is what I wrote.

"As you can not tell us what this unannounced game is,are you allowed to tell us who the publisher is of the unannounced game? If you can not tell us who the publisher is,is this because you(or them)feel it will give the title away before being officially announced?"

Now this is his response.

"You are correct.

As I mentioned in the generic response in an earlier email, it is all up to the publisher. The publisher dictates what and when information is released. Most of the time, a game is in development before a public announcement.

A publisher may delay announcing the product because it would prove a distraction to its other products and will wait for a clear opportunity to market the product. Sometimes a publisher will delay announcing because the development is taking on new challenges and they want to wait to make sure the new features are viable before announcing them. Those are a couple reasons a publisher will not divulge a game in development.

But to our position on the matter. We have a contract with the publisher. They have contractually bound us not to talk about what we are doing. It’s their product they have every right demand silence from us. We will remain silent about what we are doing until allowed to do otherwise. And then we will only speak to the topics that we are allowed to. We can’t mention the publisher because people will immediately know the product. So, at this time, we are prohibited from saying anything more about the product or the publisher."

I hope that answer your questions.

Regards,

John

Now I found a couple things that might lead to their game being SWBF3

1) John said it would be a distraction to the publishers other products so that's why they're not announcing it, and as we know LucasArts is practically done with Lego Star Wars III, and they're in the making of the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.

2) John said if they said who the publisher was it would give the product away, and the only rumored product is SWBF3, and the only rumored publisher is LucasArts so they are right when they say it would give the product away.

3) When John said they might delay the announcement of the game because "the development is taking on new challenges and they want to wait to make sure the new features are viable before announcing them." And we all know that LucasArts would want to work through this game carefully because they would want to make this game as amazing as possible and not make a silly or horrible mistake.

I hope this helps and gives you more hope!

Hope still rises so trust in the Force! :D

Don't worry, I've done riskier stuff that LucasArts would kill me for. :P

Someone should ask John (now officially the guy we send emails to) if the game has a hand held version. Even though another developer may be working on them. Interesting what he will say. :u:

John is probably a very busy guy so if we pester him too much he'll probably just stop answering.

I think it's best to lay off for a while.

Oh, and it may be a stupid question, but if it is BFIII and I can get an interview, would anyone be interested in seeing it? And possibly contributing to the questions?

I agree, he probably gets enough e-mails as it is. I say give the guy a break he probably gets asked the same question " Are you making Star Wars: Battlefront III" ( or a question in that general area ) And he probably has to do about the same answer everyday to about every e-mail. Me and John just got lucky when I sent that e-mail. He got a type of e-mail he doesn't usually get and got to give a different kind of response, and I get the information I needed. But we should not pester him like you said and just wait and see what comes up.

Well, it's his job. :/ He probably gets tones of e-mails every day.

Um, I'm not sure what he does other then answer the e-mails there. Because I'm pretty sure that guys job isn't just checking and responding to fan mail, but I still do wonder. :?:

He is a lead designer. I know this because I sent him a message over Facebook

Something about his response sounds really aggravated. Like he's really tired of people pestering him. Otherwise he wouldn't have gone through all of those details.

I probably would be annoyed too. Every time he has to construct a response, he has to word it in such a way to keep himself from spilling the beans, or allowing people to draw an immediate conclusion. Otherwise he risks losing his job.

Personally, I would be pretty upset if I was a Battlefront developer, trying to keep everything secret for a huge surprise announcement, and every day I got emails from people that already "know" what's going on.

Then it's definitely not really part of his job to answer emails for people. He's just doing it to keep good public relations. I'd leave him alone, he has more important things to do.

Strange how Spark uses a professional game developer to waste time and skills responding to fan-emails and not a Community Manager like most studios...

Exactly, he's doing this because he wants to, not because he has to.
