I think the forum could do with a forum tree (only way I can describe it). In other forums when you go into a topic, if you look above the posting area you will see something along the lines of:

forum> some random part of it > a topic

where all parts of it link you back to thier relevant page.

I think it could just make navigation a bit easier as when looking in a section I often find I have to go to the board index and then go back into the section to look at other posts. If I hit "back" on my browser the topic stays unread.

Well, I am no noob. I can tell you that that is something different. Something else I can tell you: the navigation system depends on what the host site is (ex. my website's host is FreeForums) and then the style that you chose.
