Grand Theft Auto V

Alright. I friggen love the GTA games. So, The newly revealed details regarding Grand Theft Auto V are a pretty big deal for me. So, I thought I'd open up some discussion on it.

My favorite game in the series has always been San Andreas - it had a massive, fully-explorable map, tons of character customization options, and an almost limitless amount of things you could do. You could go practically anywhere and find something to do.

GTA IV was... kind of a let down. It scaled things way back. Liberty city was dark and gray, the story tried to be more grounded in reality, and there was way less stuff to do. The Episodes From Liberty City expansions corrected a lot of this, added a good amount of new features, and are pretty much my standard as far as how to do DLC right.

Nuff of that though, here are some of the new features brought up so far for GTA V. I'll update as more and more info is revealed.

* The largest map in any Rockstar game to date. GTA V's rendition of Los Santos (based on modern-day Los Angeles/Southern California) is stated to be larger than GTA San Andreas, GTA IV, and Red Dead Redemption's maps combined, and consists of busy downtown districts, mountains, sprawling suburban areas, beaches, farmland, deserts, a full (playable) golf course, and the ocean floor.

* More vehicles than any previous GTA. The full roster - while not confirmed - features the return of bicycles, planes (including 2 fighter jets), jet-skis, dirt bikes, mini-subs, ATVs, and more.

* 3 playable protagonists. Just like GTA IV with the expansions, GTA V has 3 different protagonists. However, unlike IV they are not played in an episodic style. You can switch between any of the 3 main characters at will - even in the middle of certain missions. Each protagonists has their own set of unique activities and friends. Each of them will also go about their daily lives while you're not playing as them, meaning you can catch them in the middle of some odd situations if you check in on them at certain times. Their appearances cannot be customized to the extent of San Andreas, but they can still buy and wear numerous types of clothing.

* More/improved random events and missions. Much like Red Dead Redemption, and GTA IV before it, V has a number of dynamic optional missions that appear if the player chooses to investigate certain things they spot around the city.

* More heists! Some of the best missions in previous GTA games (Three Leaf Clover) are centered around planned heists. GTA V makes this the center of attention, with numerous missions styled after bank robberies and intricately planned/executed heists.

* Fall 2013 release for the XBox 360 and PS3. A PC release (while not confirmed yet) may be likely as well. Provided we don't all get blown up some time in December, this is definitely something to look forward to. It's probably the only game I've been really excited about for a long time after a continuous series of disappointments. It'll be available September 17th.

BUY IT.
