Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Gameplay

This campaign starts out in an Afgan/Iraq setting with a today like firefight. I wont go into it to spoil it for people that haven’t played, but its awesome. It has a real modern storyline and hits the base line of the United States Military. Of course, like any good game it has a few twists. And also, it has the “controversial” level, which involves shooting civilians. Of course, they have conveniently included a message at the beginning and before the level to skip the level itself.
The only complaint that I have with this campaign is that it’s short. It took me about 6 hours, and I take a while to get through levels. While the campaign is really intense and very fast pasted, it really caught me by surprise by how quickly the ending comes up.

Spec Ops
This is the multiplayer campaign that is one of the points that the game shines. It contains bits and pieces of the campaign that are able to be multiplayer, and also contains missions that aren’t in the campaign that kick butt. You also have 3 difficulties to take each mission, with a hundred or so stars to earn, with 3 stars on each mission.
The only thing that I can say about how good this multiplayer campaign mode is that it works really well. And if you don’t have a buddy to play it with split screen, you can hook up on the internet and play it with a random guy. Or you can simply play it one player and be a bum about it. Overall though, it is awesome though.
Rating = 9.5/10
Multiplayer
Some people complain that the game is a let down because of the campaign, but the real place that this game shines is multiplayer. The games are flawless, and the hosting servers are amazing. Even if your game starts to lag, the game stops, finds a new host, and comes back up exactly where you were. (Kinda bad if that grenade that was going off in your face is still going off in your face, but oh well) The weapons are very detailed with everything taken into account including recoil, dust, sparks, and shells coming out.
And being able to create a class in multiplayer is a step up from any other game I’ve ever played. And you can upgrade it to have pretty much any scope you want or any attachment that you could possibly think of.

Overall Gameplay Rating = 9.4/10
Graphics
The graphics in this game are amazing. Everything has been accounted for. Dust, dirt, you name it. The environment isn’t totally destructible, but almost everything can explode or be shot through. The blood splatter when you get hit is a win lose kind of deal. On one side its very helpful if you are getting shot, but it does block your vision and obstructs your ability to actually see who’s shooting you. That is my only complaint is that there isn’t some way to turn that off. However, since you don’t actually have a health bar and instead just go off the splatter that slowly goes away, it can be good too. Overall though, the graphics are uncompromising and the best that I have seen. It beats all other games down.
Rating = 9.5/10
Sound
The soundtrack and sounds of gunfire are really good. Shying away from just rain and stuff, the music is really good. They had their own composer for the campaign and spec ops missions. The soundtrack is completely original and sounds great. I would put this up there, at least the campaign soundtrack, with some of the bigger games like Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, etc…
Rating = 9.5/10
Wrap-Up
The gameplay itself is really good, but has a really short campaign. The game makes up for any shortcomings with its rock solid multiplayer and spec op missions. There is no lag anywhere except on the internet, and hardly any then. The game itself is a prime example of one of those games that will be remembered for at least a couple years. It may not be the biggest title of all time, but it definitely is one of the greatest games that I have ever had the opportunity to play.

You still haven't played God of War 3 yet then? JK.Ironman21 wrote:...Overall though, the graphics are uncompromising and the best that I have seen. It beats all other games down.
Seriously though, nice review. I have played the game myself and enjoy and dislike similar things you pointed out. The blood on the screen is a real pain and compromises your vision but it nice over a health bar. Can't wait to see what happens with the legal trouble that's happening over at Infinity Ward.
yep. Me too

I loved the Cliffhanger mission
That was a pretty good one. Took me a little bit to figure out not to let go of my left button cause I would fall when changing hands

Never really got into Modern Warfare 2.

Personally I liked the first one better but I can't argue that the second is good. As good as people are making it seem? No, but I do like Ironman's review because it's honest. Many people would go straight for the 10 but it's not perfect. I have not played a perfect game yet but the closest was Metal Gear Solid 4.

I didn't really like Modern Warfare 2. At least not the story.
It seems like infinity ward thought "Hey, everyone thought the first one was awesome for X reason, so if we do it 30 times in the next game it'll be 30 times better!) In addition most of MW1 felt at least somewhat realistic. The very first mission of MW2 felt this way, and I thought it was awesome. Then in the very next one you're snowmobiling down mountains with uzis, and it went south from there for me.
Edit: I also enjoy Metal Gear Solid 4, but it's far from perfect. Probably the best part of a game for me is being able to play it for more than 10 minutes before having to watch another 2 hour cutscene.

You know, I felt the exact same way when I played through MW2, the first game hit the spot (especially the first mission on the ship) but MW2 just went overboard. I'm not saying MW2 is a bad game, just alot different from the first one.
I really like story driven games so it didn't bother me very much and personally never felt left out too long.Kelevra wrote:Edit: I also enjoy Metal Gear Solid 4, but it's far from perfect. I didn't like it. i thought the first mission was good, but it became less realistic as it went on, in MW1 the story was pretty great, But in MW2 They just did the same, over, and over again. Not a game i will remember, Sold already, but for some good features, possible worth trying.
Unbias ratings (As if i hadn't played MW1, because the first, to me is better!)
Story - 7
Features - 9
Graphics - 9.5
The other stuff (Controls, realism etc) - 8
My overall rating - 8

I personally was not in favor of the game. It lacked consistency. The levels were fine, the graphics were good, not great. The game play was fun but lagged behind the original. It seemed like a sorry remake. the graphics were better, but storyline failed me. It's almost like they tried to 1 up the original, all the way up to throwing the knife at the end.
Something to say in it's defense. the coop was fun, and because I played through that first with a friend, may be why I'm so hard on the storyline. The coop wasn't exactly challenging, and was pretty easy to break even the hardest levels. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I never found this to be a very skill based games.
which brings me to the multiplayer. I will say that the multiplayer is engaging. it was fun and I would play for hours without realizing, but I soon noticed it was a first shoot, first kill game. if your opponent knew what he was doing, and spotted you first. you were dead. Not exactly something that gives people in sniper towers bragging rights. Which brings me to the spawning algorithm. It was disappointing to say the least and tainted the overall fun of the game. Spawning then instantly dying was never fun. I must say perks were a nice touch but the people with commando, marathon, and lightweight annoyed me the most. They would zigzag at you from a quarter of a football field away and still manage to kill you with that knife. It wasn't a problem with the game, but rather an element of it: autoaim. You apparently can turn it off everywhere except multiplayer, and constant zigzagging, jumping, et cetera breaks their algorithm. (that's just one example of a broken group of perks.) In theory it's a wonderful idea, but I found people who exploited it, frustrating to deal with to say the least.
in all here are my ratings:
story: 4/10
disappointing is taking it easy. if you like over-the-top (un)realism, that's fine by me.
coop: 8/10
my favorite part of the game. A little buggy, but definitely enjoyable.
gameplay: 7/10
although nothing new, gameplay is still solid. ( seemed to use the philosophy of "why fix what isn't broken?" )
graphics: 7.5/10
not wonderful, a few depressing uses of sprite maps, but still better for this era of gaming
sound: 6/10
good, but nothing particularly immersing. the gun sounds were well done, along with the explosions, but the music was lacking, and sometimes unbalanced the feel of the story
multiplayer: 7/10
It's all good and fun, but balancing is a major issue. The spawn algorithm was saddening and a lot of maps seemed to have been made for campers.
overall: 6.5/10
worth buying for playing online, but don't expect a gaming epic. If you have the original I say stick with it, because as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing new worth paying for.
P.S. The reason why I'm so hard on the "realism" aspect, is because it claimed it was, and quite frankly the game does nothing to support that claim.

Personally, I didn't like the MW2 multiplayer due to all the people camping in corners/running around with commando pro on.
