0x10c --- Notch's new game

Post by Sam »

So when I first saw Minecraft years ago I remember the nerdy tingling feeling when I realised the potential of the game and quickly bought the game (it cost me less that £5, now it's near enough £20 :P ). Minecraft has succeeded in reaching this potential and has become very popular for all the right reasons.

Now Notch has taken that feeling I got when I first saw Minecraft and made it 100 times bigger with his next game idea:

http://0x10c.com/

From what I can gather its one persistent multiplayer universe (single player will be an option I believe) where you design and build your own ship and explore a huge (effectively infinite) environment where you can land on and explore planets.

On top of this, the most interesting feature of this game is that you can use simulated 16 bit computers in game that you can program to control your ship etc

The website explains all of this better and will be following the same development mechanism as minecraft did (i.e Alpha release) and yes I will definitely be buying the game in it's alpha stage :D

COMPLETELY UNRELATED EDIT: Oh yeah and on top of all this I got into the beta for Duolingo today :)

The concept does seem amazing. I've been carefully following Notch's recent tweets but it doesn't exactly look like a joy to code for. I may have to read up on it more.

I got mine a little while ago but I'm waiting for them to add French. Let me know how it works out :u:

Yeah will do, I'm trying it out with Spanish right now. The interface is really good and my plan is to try to do something every day. I'm impressed with what I have seen so far, need to pick up a better microphone though.

and with the 0x10c game there are already a couple of emulators for the in game computer knocking around, I'll probably download one soonish to have a play around with and get used to the language.

Rodina. It's like Ox10c, but it's being made by a programmer.
