Futurama - Welcome To The Topic of Tomorrow!

Since there is a few Futurama fans in the forums I thought I'd create a topic just for the show. One topic/debate I thought would be a good start is what do you think Phillip J. Fry's full middle name is?
My idea is that considering that in The Simpsons (which Matt Groening also produces) has Homer J. Simpson which we find that his full name is Homer Jay Simpson, that Phillip's (and the Professor's actually) middle name is probably Jay as well.
Any other ideas or different discussions are welcome as I am a HUGE Futurama fan and enjoy talking about anything to do with the show.

Apparently that is the case.
"Also Fry's middle initial J. is in honor of Rocky and Bullwinkle creator Jay Ward. "

I was unaware that there was already I reason.
Another thing that comes to mind is Bender's son in Beast With A Billion Backs. Was Angeline the mom?

Yes I did! I remember when the new episode plans first surfaced and there was talk of casting new characters. I was very glad to see that Bill West and the crew are coming back. I wish Wikipedia would go by production season instead of airing season ( or is it the other way around?) because there was no season 5. Devil's Hands Are Idle Play Things was the 72 episode and last of season 4.

yeah, for me they really needed to get the old cast and characters back, otherwise it would be more of a spin than the real thing.
Anyway, can't wait for it, its by far my favorite cartoon of all time.

Have you seen Bender's Big Score? If so, did you notice Bender's email? It's
[email protected]. You can email it and he'll send you one back (it's just generated but worth a try (they may eventually read them some time (these brackets are getting out of hand))) and you can also check ilovebender.com, which is really just a bunch of bios and screenshots, but it looks like the Professor's lab and you can see past inventions and listen to the theme song. You can even see Pocket Pal!

I did notice those things on the movie but didn't think to see if they were real things.
Anyway, I e-mailed the ilovebender thing and got:
Dear New Friend,
Thank you for writing to me, Bender. It really means a lot to me. Not many humans contact me because I am so rude and impatient. You're starting to get on my nerves now. Quit buggin' me, meatbag!
P.S. - Buy my DVD.
Love,
Bender

Ya I got the same one. I've watched all the movies with commentary and they hinted that they were going to, at some point, put something on the site. So I emailed him and looked for the site.

Does anyone know if the new season will air on the Comedy Network? I know it will be on Comedy Central but not about other networks. I have done some searching but haven't found much. Does anyone else know anything?

That link redirects to comedynetwork.ca but Futurama isn't in the show listings.

I had to dig up this thread and it was a shameful re-read of past spelling errors and general what-the-hell-was-I-thinking statements. Anyway, I resurrected this thread to talk about (probably only to Tretarn but what the hell) season 5 (or 6 if you go by airing seasons) of Futurama.
I got the Blu-Ray for Christmas (:D) and have watched the first 7 episodes of the season, with and without commentary, all in glorious 1080P HD. So, what do I think you ask? Oh, you didn't? Well, I'm going to tell you anyway. The first two episodes (Rebirth and In-a-Gadda-Da-Leela) worried the **** out of me as it did NOT feel like Futurama. I don't know exactly what about them made me feel this way, but the characters just weren't acting as how you would expect them to (with the exception of Bender...more on my feelings of him later). I think the main problem is the relationship between Leela and Fry which was created by the all evil Ken Keeler in the last movie, Into the Wild Green Yonder. They aren't supposed to love each other, but simply be close friends.
Attack of the Killer App and Proposition Infinity begin to bring back some of the things Futurama is great for: a great blend of slapstick, wit, and nerdy background/foreground jokes. These episodes move Fry and Leela away from each, for good cause, and bring them back more or less how we remember them.
The Duh-Vinci Code rolled next and brought even more hope to me. It was a much more sci-fi experience and start moving things forward. Fry's mutilation and the reoccurring stupidity of trying to nail a nail with a nail (you heard me) makes a great episode.
Lethal Inspection (LI) and The Late Phillip J. Fry (TLPJF) were the last ones I watched thus far and they are my favourite! LI particularly hit my wanting for my classic yet new Futurama by pairing up two characters we've never really seen alone before: Hermes and Bender. The episode was full of laughs and character revelations. TLPJF was by far my favourite however as it's the nerdiest, funniest (debatable...), most character filling, and has the most little touches of the 7.
My least favourite thing was the re-introduction. I've watched the re-runs since it went off air 7 years ago! I know who the characters are. I've watched every episode and movie with commentary. I've placed out challenged for someone to combat my Futurama knowledge but no one has dared. My favourite thing was that Bender was stripped of his mindless catchphrases from the movies. They were funny, but they were all he said.
That turned into more of a review than I hoped but overall I am quite pleased with S5 so far. I hope the next 6 are even better and that Futurama can eventually hit its full stride once more!
So what did other people who saw this season think? (please no spoilers for me!)

Another post (sorry for the double) for the second half of the first half of season 6/7 (volume 5).
That Darn Katz was a great episode although they overlooked the fact that Doctor Katz is almost identical to the character used as Fry's professor from Mars University from season 1 and did not need a cat to move. Either way it was funny.
A Clockwork Origin was a visually stunning and quite funny but it seemed to try to be controversial as a frontal face. It was decent.
The Prisoner of Benda was a great episode. Written by one of my favourite writers (who I previously proclaimed to be evil) Ken Keeler. It was a mind switching episode that unlike previous attempts by other television shows, the solution was proven and could be considered a theorem. The one problem I have with this episode is that Fry (in Zoidberg) and Leela (in Farnsworth) get
busy yet Zoidberg was said to die if he propagated in Why Must I be a Crustacean in Love?
Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences is an episode of Futurama! It was okay.
The Mutants are Revolting is a very odd 100th episode just because they decided that it was the 100th. Apparently the 4 sections of each movie were considered episodes and I feel that's cheating but whatever. It's a really funny episode with nice little touches and one big change. Anyone notice the anchovies?
The Futurama Holiday Spectacular is the Christmas/Robanukkah/Kwanzaa special featuring three parts to describe each holiday. It's pretty good.
Although the last half weren't absolutely hilarious, they seem to return to the Futurama form. Can't wait for the second half of season 6 although it may be the end unless they get renewed

Right, so I wanted to watch the episodes again before talking about them, because I had forgot a few of them. The first episode had a few good ideas but I think they failed to translate in the classic Futurama way and I found the second one incredibly odd for Futurama, I think they were trying to be something they are not.
The attack of the lethal app was quite good imo as it went back to classic bender doing what he does best and was just generally quite funny. Will update as I re-watch more.
