I am going to agree with crytek on this one. Nerdy to me suggests someone who shys away from social situations in order to get that armour in WoW or something.
On another, somewhat related note, I think it is a shame that there seems to be this divide among society where people who like to discuss these sorts of things are somewhat held at arms length as if we are 'weird', where as if it wasn't for us kind of people the technological advancements we have made and are making as a species would have never materialised.
This may simply have risen from the way in which we are now schooled, where science at the lower levels is seriously dumbed down so that everybody can pass it, meaning those who are capable of handling the complex ideas are held back because our goverment wants to wave around a statistic of how everybodys getting record results in exams. Even though GCSE litterally teaches you squat in the grand scheme of things. Even at the more advanced levels (pre-university), especially in physics, the sciences hold no mathematical ideas and concepts, which is really really &%*$#, because it means that the curriculum by default will never be able to teach quantum, relativity, chaos, all the good stuff, to the full extent and show the universe in all of its glory! This again is probably to make the government wave around a statistic.
The net result is that people who might be a brilliant scientist are bored to death and shy away from the sciences and those who with the right training might be a good scientist and take it on at university are blown out of the water when they are litterally thrown into the deep end and this causes an 80% drop out rate nation wide in physics (which is the worst effected science) and quite high drop out rates in the other sciences. All of this means there are less and less scientists every year, less and less people willing to teach it and less and less advancements.
Then to top it all of the government starts to wonder why they are losing scientists and still don't fund research. Idiots.

And yes, nerds are people who isolate themselves to do things on their own with no real purpose to their lives, basically. Nothing to do with complicated things.

They both do not work when you open windows.
Once thing which is interesting is wireless charging and power supply. Magic do you say? It isn't magic. Technology means we will soon be getting rid of our horrible wires. Radio waves carry signals for things like TV and wifi but can also carry power. A radiowave transmitter can find and send high powered radio waves to devices to power them with no need for wires. These transmitters could be built into walls in the future. Connecting a device to the mains could be a simple as placing it inside a building and turning it on.
Will will also charge things like mobiles like this. To begin with it will be by a surface. You can already get wireless phone chargers. Toothbrush chargers also use wireless power. It's exciting stuff.

That's very coincidental considering I had just been writing about wireless power today at school :shock:
It is very exciting and being tested on large scale as we speak. I hope it is the way of tomorrow because I hate cables. If I ever buy a TV with wireless power as soon as I bring it home and 'plug' it in I'm definitely going to say...Welcome to the world of tomorrow!

Also another coincidence is that today a friend of mine was telling me about wireless power and how Nicola Tesla was the first one to propose the idea of wireless power.

Yeah, well, like with the Swine Flu scare people knew nothing about it so they freaked out, even when it was only deadly to people with asthma and young and old people (what isn't worse for old people). If you don't know anything about it you can't go about saying that its deadly and will kill you, but thats what people do.

Well Swine Flu was just that...a Flu. Thousands of people die each year of the flu but for some reason it was a big media scare this time. I think it had to do with governments spending the money on the vaccinations and wanting to actually use them.

That was spanish flu, it had 2 waves, the first wave wasn't too bad, but then it mutated over a summer period and became something alot deadlier. Thats what some believe swine flu could do. Bu it hasnt done so yet so we could be in the clear with this one.
