I agree. People are just paranoid. The media gets wind of it and decides to blow it out of proportion because it's good for their ratings.
Now the pharmaceutical companies are sitting back laughing themselves to the bank.

Well the swine flu vaccination was issued by the government (in Canada anyway) so I would assume that the pharmaceutical companies aren't too much better off.

And the governments will have bought the anti-viral medicines and vaccinations possibly subsidising the research and development costs for the vaccines.

If the media would just stop blowing things out of proportion then none of the world would be scared to death of the H1N1 Virus. Its a shame that pig farmers and the bacon and sausage companies suffered when it had nothing to do with them too!

Really? People seriously stopped buying pig meats? I forget exactly how stupid people are.

Yep, they did
Thats why the had to start referring to it as H1N1 instead of "The Swine Flu"

Well actually it is a disease the originates from pigs and just recently mutated to be able to infect people. Also if my spelling is bad it's because I'm at school and don't have spell check readily available as a plug in for my browser...

It is not terrible, and the virus mutated but it won't be traveling back through pigs anytime soon

Well the scare that it was in pigs distracted the misinformed about the facts. Those being just one, which is that cooking the meat kills the virus even if it existed.

Flu viruses only survive 24 hours on average without a living host which is all you need to know.

Well from my experience people (especially adults) are readily available to be brainwashed from the media. They just accept everything they hear as facts. Not to say they aren't, they just forget to talk about the other facts that would contradict (or at least lessen) the reasons to be scared or paranoid. I have really disliked the news as I started to get older and wiser, realizing that they either spew out the bad news and stories or completely forget about the bad news and show a local chicken farmer who has new chicks....It just angers my blood. I hope that this will change although these tactics sell and they're in a business to make money so who can really blame them?
Also may I mention that I am really enjoying this discussion

I miss the days when the news was the "whole" truth, and not just "part"
